CE

STANDARDS

Two directives

  • 89/656/CEE from 30 11 1989 concerns the use of PPE for the employer.
  • 89/686/CEE from 29 12 1989 concerns PPE design for manufacturers.
 

Category I
Protects from minor risk only. Self-certification by the producer Marking CE.

Category II
Protects from regular and identified risks. Certified by a licenced laboratory. Marking : CE + norm pictogram with levels of performance (optional).

Category III
Protects from irreversible or fatal risks. Certified by a licenced laboratory and production is managed using a quality assurance system such as ISO. Marking :
CE.0333 (surveying organisation) + norm pictogram with levels of performance (optional).

EN420

General requirements

  • 3,5 < ph < 9,5
  • chrome VI < 2 mg/kg
  • sizes
  • dexterity from 0 to 5

For all safety gloves, regardless of which category. It determines :

  • Ergonomics
  • Innocuousness
  • Cleaning
  • Marking of the glove and the packing

On top of EN 420, all gloves in category 2 and intermediate require tests by an independent and notified body according to the CE specification.


The most important tests are according to :

The values achieved according to the standardised CE tests are indicated with numbers from 1 to 4, cut level 1 to 5.
The higher the value, the better the protection against this mechanical risk.
If a test is not applicable, e.g. puncture resistance for knitted gloves, an "X" is mentioned.
